In addition to encouraging unwanted algae growth, phosphates slow the skeletal growth of stony corals. Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Organic supplies readily available nitrogen compounds and balances nutrient levels. Just like in the ocean, when sufficient trace elements are present. Of all the trace elements found in natural sea water, iodine is associated with the widest range of effects. Iodine prevents goitre as an important component of the thyroid hormone. It also is essential for the hardening of the chitinous shell of crustaceans. Coallinaceous red algae deposit iodine in surface structures and gorgoniias deposit it in the axial skeleton. Experiments clearly show that Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Iodine improves the adaptation to light and the colouring of anthozoa, especially of hard corals. Due to ist unstable nature in solution, iodine should be added to marine aquarium on a regular basis. Natural alkalinity and calcium concentrations are of special importance to ensure optimum growth and well-being of many invertebrates and calcareous algae in an aquarium. In many reef aquaria an increase of alkalinity and a decrease of calcium often occur. With Tropic Marin Alca-Balance, the alkalinity can be easily reduced to 6° to 9° dKH while the calcium concentration can be raised to a natural level simultaneously.Application and dosage: one level spoonful (4 g) for each 100 l aquarium water equals a reduction of alkalinity of about 1.5° dKH or a rise in the calcium concentration by 10 ppm. In many aquariums, parasites and microbial diseases can appear on new corals especially Acropora corals that are weakened and stressed by transport. Due to the lack of natural enemies, these parasites and diseases propagate and spread quickly in the aquarium. Since they are almost invisible to the naked eye the parasites are only perceived when damage is already substantial. Therefore it is recommended to preventively treat all newly purchased Acropora corals with Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Cure and to apply Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Cure to all corals which have been attacked by flatworms.
