The ab Aqua Medic Nitratreductor 400 is a completely sealed biological filter. It is operated at a very low flow rate so that an oxygen free enviroment is created where in natrally occurring bacteria reduce nitrate to harmless nitrogen gas.
The filter can be installed in almost any position, inside or outside the aquarium or the cabinet. The water flow is provided by connecting to a standard canister filter, power head or by pass circuit.After maturing the filter can keep the nitrate concentration in a normally loaded aquarium up to 400 litres at a very low level. The filter medium -Deniballs- is consumed and will require replacement in 9 to 12 months dependant on load.
For optimum control it is recommended the filter be used in conjunction with a Aqua Medic mV (Redoc, ORP) controller. The filter is already equipped to accept a special pressurised electrode.

The construction of the Sulphur Nitratereductor 400 is technically almost identical to the Nitratreductor 400. It contains a circulation pump, that circulates the water through the sulphur beads and the Hydrocarbonate. Otherwise, than the known Nitratereductor, the Sulphur Nitratereductor uses special bacteria, that use sulphur as energy source to remove nitrate. As a by product, sulphuric acid is produced, that is neutralised by the Hydrocarbonate in the filter. The ab Aqua Medic Sulphur Nitratereductor is recommended for aquariums up to 400 l.The Sulphur nitratereductor is complete filled. The Sulphur Reactor is a Bioreactor filled with sulphur beads. They promote the growth of special bacteria, that remove nitrate. The Sulphur Reactor should always be used in combination with the Hydrocarbonate Reactor. Inside the Hydrocarbonate Reactor, the sulphuric acid, that is produced in the Sulphur Reactor, is neutralised. The Sulphur filter is filled with 1 litre Sulphur beads. The Hydrocarbonate reactor is designed as postfilter for the sulphur nitrate filter (e.g. ab Aqua Medic Sulphur reactor). The Sulphur Reactor from ab Aqua Medic (or moedls from other manufacturers) should always be used in combination with the Hydrocarbonate Reactor. Inside the Hydrocarbonate Reactor, the sulphuric acid, that is produced in the Sulphur Reactor, is neutralised.

sulfur pearls are formed from pure sulphur. They are used in Sulphur nitrate reactors as the filter medium and energy source for the bacteria. They have to be replaced from time to time as they are slowly consumed by the bacteria. Caution: Use only in nitrate removing anaerobic filters having a low water flow rate. The pH value and carbonate hardness (alkalinity) of the aquarium must be monitored regularly. We recommend sulphur filters are only used only in combination with a hardness reactor, filled with ab Hydrocarbonate, to neutralise the acid produced.Sulphur beads for refilling the ab Aqua Medic Silphur reactor or the Sulphur nitrate reductor. Available in 1000 ml and 5000 ml box size.

The Nitratreductor is an anaerobic biological reactor for the removal of nitrates from marine and freshwater aquaria. It has a large volume of 10 litres and an internal circulation pump. The Nitratreductor works with a flow rate of 1 to 4 litres per hour. This condition, in absence of oxygen, promotes special bacteria to metabolize nitrate. Denimar tablets or deniballs are used as an organic energy source. To monitor this process, it is possible to use a redox potential controller (ORP controller) in conjunction with the robe inserted in the supplied port. The Nitratreductor is a closed unit that can be integrated in filter systems, but it may also be used to stand alone under the aquarium. Now including dosing pump SP 3000 for controlled water flow. For aquaria up to 1000 litres.

Aqua Medic Denimar is a food for bacteria. The bacteria in an anaerobic biofilter need organic nutrients as energy source to remove nitrate. Aqua Medic Denimar contains organic substances that dissolve slowly in water and are taken up by the bacteria. If Denimar is dosed daily, high nitrate removal rates can be reached in the nitrate filter. Denimar is suited for salt and freshwater aquaria. Contains no fertilizers and does not promote algal growth.
