Nitrite (NO²) is the intermediate stage of the aerobic nitrification and is highly toxic for fish and invertebrates. A too high concentration of nitrite impedes the oxygen transport in the blood and severely restricts celluar respiration. With this test, the nitrite content can be accurately determined from 0.01 to 2 mg/l with the finely tuned colour chart. Nitrate (NO³) is the final stage of the aerobic nitrification and impairs the well being of fish and invertebrates to a lesser degree. But high nitrate concentrations can accelerate algae growth and impede the growth of certain corrals. Oxygen shortage in the aquarium may cause the reduction of nitrate to poisonous nitrite. With the Tropic Marin NO²/N³ nitrite/nitrate test, the nitrate concentration can be measured from 1 to 100 mg/l with the finely tuned colour chart. The reagents of this combined test are sufficient for a total of approx. 40 tests.

For the determination of the ammonia ammonium concentration in fresh and seawater. The ammonium-ion (NH4+) is the result of nitrogen mineralisation and exists with ammonia (NH3) in an equilibrium depending on the pH-value. Nitrogen organically bound in food remains and excrement is converted by bacteria and set free in the form of inorganic ammonium ions. An ammonium value that is too high impairs the respiration and blocks vital biological functions in livestock with potentially devastating effects. With the Tropic Marin NH3/NH4 ammonia ammonium test, the ammonium concentration can be determined from 0.01 to 3 mg/1 and - with known pH-value - be converted to the ammonia concentration with the help of a chart. The test reagents are sufficient for approx. 50 tests.

Tropic marine phosphate test for the determination of the phosphate concentration in fresh water and sea water. Phosphates are indispensable important food constituents of all plants and for the energy metabolism of each living cell. If the plants do not take up sufficient phosphate, the equilibrium of the phosphate cycle is disturbed. Strong alga growth or a growth inhibition with stony corals is the results. With the Tropic Marin PO phosphate test the phosphate concentration can be measured from 0.03 to 3 mg/1 with the colour chart. The test reagents are sufficient for approx. 30 tests.

Tropic Marin Calcium-Test for the determination of the calcium concentration in seawater. Calcium is one of the most important components of seawater and largely determines the growth rate of organismus which form calcareous skeletons like, for example stony corals and calcareous algae. In the seawater aquarium, a regular addition of calcium ions is necessary because of the constant decrease of the calcium concentration caused by the metabolism of the organisms and by precipitation. Careful supervision of the calcium content in the seawater aquarium ensures optimal and lifelike living conditions for all calcareous organisms. With a sensitivity of 4 mg/l, the Calcium-Test by Tropic Marin is the most accurate calcium test available. Special reagents intentionally make use of the high magnesium concentration of the seawater, which usually interferes with aquarium calcium tests, and thus guarantee the outstanding dependability of the results. The test reagents of the Tropic Marin Ca calcium test are sufficient for approx. 50 tests.

Tropic Marin Magnesium-Calcium-Combitest for measuring magnesium and calcium concentrations in sea water. Magnesium and calcium concentrations and the ration between these two elements are constantly changing in marine aquariums due to assimilation into the skeletons of corals and coralline algae and the process of precipitation. A periodic check of magnesium and calcium concentrations is necessary to determine the amounts of these elements that needs to be added to the aquarium in order to restore them to natural seawater levels. The Tropic Marin Mg/Ca Magnesium-Calcium-Combitest consistently determines the exact concentration of each of these elements separately. Each Magnesium-Calcium-Combitest kit contains reagents for approx. 30 tests.

Natural water (groundwater, rivers, lakes, oceans) will always contain silicate but the amount present will depend on the weathering of silicate rocks. The concentration of silicate when analysing stones, sediments, soils and water is usually described in mg/litre of silicon dioxide (SiO2). Silicates are basically non-toxic to the organisms in an aquarium. An increased concentration of silicate can, however, lead to the increased algal bloom of diatoms, which utilise silicon dioxide for building their cell walls. Particular attention should therefore be paid to the concentration of silicate when setting up a new aquarium.Use the Tropic Marin Silicate test for the precise determination of the silicate concentration in fresh- and saltwater aquaria. The tiered scale on the coloured card indicates results of <0.05 ppm, 0.1 ppm, 0.25 ppm, 0.5 ppm, 1.0 ppm, and 2.0 ppm. For the first time it is possible to check the test reagents for function and shelf life by applying the silicate standard enclosed. Tropic Marin Silicate test is sifficient for 45 tests.
