The qualities of the water of the East African rift lakes, Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika, clearly differ from mid-European tap water. Characteristic are carbonate hardnesses which are above the values of the total hardness, as well as more less high alkaline pH values of about 8-9. JBL AquaDur Malawi/Tanganyika makes water for the species-specific care of East African cichlids from tap water as well as from osmosis water. The pH values are adjusted and buffered at the required alkaline level. This promotes brilliance of colour, readiness to spawn and health.The carbonate hardness is raised above the total hardness and the combination of minerals typical for the lakes introduced to the aquarium water.
The special characteristics Malawi and Tanganyika lakes can only be attained using a special salt preparation. Dosage:
In medium-hard to hard tap water: 2 level 5 g measuring spoons for 30 l. In soft tap water and osmosis water: For Malawi cichlids: 1 level 5 g measuring spoon for 10 l. For Tanganyika cichlids: 2 level 5 g measuring spoons for 15 l.

JBL Aquadur plus is a mineral mixture containing carbonatehardening as well as total hardening constituents. The composition is based on the ion distribution of most tropical waters. JBL AquaDur plus is ideally suited for increasing the corbonate and total hardness levels in all soft water. The puffer capacity is therefore increased, stabilizing the pH values and preventing a harmful drop in acidity. B-group vitamins and other important active substances, essential above all vor the vital micro-organisms in an aquarium, make soft water which has been treated with JBL AquaDur plus the ideal basic water for keeping and breeding all types of aquarium fish.Adds over 70 different salts to soft or osmosis water. The pH level is stabilised by the hydrocarbonate content
Prevents and heals the -hole in the head disease- caused by mineral deficiencies.
Live-bearing fish require higher mineral contents and conductivity, easily attained using AquaDur plus. Dosage:
1 measuring spoon (approx. 4,5 g) increases 100 l water by 0.6° dKH and 0.8° dGH. Conductivity is increased by approx. 50 µS.
The contents of the package increase 3250 l water by approx. 1° dKH and 1.3° dGH

JBL pH-Plus (formerly Aquakal) for use in fresh and marine water. Mode of action in freshwater: Narural pH-increase by increasing the carbonate hardness (KH). In excessively soft water the carbonate hardness may be raised to nay desired level by adding multiple doses of JBL pH-Plus. Especially recommended, when keeping lake Malawi cichlids. Mode of action in saltwater: Adjusting the carbonate hardness to 10-12° d, the value of natural saltwater, and therefore adjusting the required pH-value to 8,3-8,4.Application of JBL pH-Plus: outside screwtop: for 15 litres of aquarium water, inside screwtop: for 30 litres of aquarium water
These quantities increase the pH-value (depending on the initial value) by 0.1-0.5 units up to pH 8,5. KH and pH-values ought to be testet about one or two days after adding the substance. Any necessary adjustments may than be made by adding additional quantities. 100 ml are suffiecient for 400 l of water.

JBL Clearol removes microscopic clouding which normal aquarium filters tail to take out, such as suspended particles water bloom, bacterial contamination etc. Add the required quantity of JBL Clearol to the aquarium water at a spot with adequate water movement. The clouding material coagulates into larger globules and sinks to the bottom. It is also large enough now to be retained by the filter. Suction deposits of the aquarium floor and clean filter more frequently. JBL PhosEx rapid removes the algae nutrient, phosphate from the aquarium water. An iron compount, not harmful to fish, invertebrates and plants, reliably and permanently absorbs phosphates dissolved in the water, preventing the undesirable growth of algae. The effect is made visible by initial brown clouding which disappears after 2-2 hours. The water becomes crystal-clear. The absorbed phosphate can be removed from the water by cleaning the aqaurium filter and siphoning of the substrate with an gravel cleaner.Application and dosage of JBL PhosEx rapid:
First test the carbonate hardness of the aquarium water and use JBL AquaDur plus to increase it to at least 4°KH. Shake the bottle before use, then use immediately. The dosage is 10 ml for 40 litres of water. Any UV-C devices in use should be switched off. The product should be added to the aquarium in a place with good water movement. One application absorbs up to 2 mg phosphate/liter. Repeat treatment as required (check KH). Clean the filter and substrate the following day.
