The Salifert Profi Test NO² -Nitrite- is for the exact and determine of the nitrite content in freshwater, seawater, osmosis water or water from garden pond. Nitrite is a substance that is very toxic to fish and invertebrates. It is a misconception that once a tank is through its cycle (first 3 or 4 weeks) that nitrite has vanished. Nitrite is converted to nitrate in properly cycled aquariums. The thus formed nitrate is transformed into harmless nitrogen gas (=denitrification). This happens in areas deprived of oxygen within live rock and miscellaneous filter materials. Before it can be transformed to nitrogen gas the nitrate is first converted back to nitrite. When for whatever reason this particular cycle can not be completed, toxic nitrite can be present in significant concentration and readily be detected by test kits that do not suffer from amine interference. The Salifert Profi Test pH is sufficient for 60 tests in freshwater or seawater.

With the Salifert Profi Test NO³ you can determine the nitrate content in freshwater oder seawater exactly and easily. A too high nitrate concentration can result in unwanted algae-growth and these might irritate corals in their neighborhood. Nitrate as such also retards coral growth. The nitrate concentration in a proper functioning reef aquarium should preferably be lower than 1 mg/L. Fish-only aquariums would usually show much higher nitrate concentrations. Most test kits use a procedure in which a certain part of nitrate is converted chemically into nitrite and is measured as such. The very special ingredients in the Salifert Profi-Test NO³ -Nitrate- allow a very fast and precise measurement. The Salifert Profi Test pH is sufficient for 60 tests in freshwater or seawater.

With the Salifert Profi Test PO4 you can determine the phosphate content in freshwater oder seawater exactly and easily. Phosphate also blocks or retards the growth of corals and calcareous algae. One of the scientific studies shows that a phosphate concentration higher than 0.05 mg/L decreases the growth of calcareous algae by 90%! The Salifert phosphate test already detects, within seconds, 0.015 mg/L of phosphate. This makes phosphate measurement highly reliable and informative allowing timely measures to be taken. The Salifert Profi Test PO4 -Phospahte- can perform approx. 60 measurements.

With the Salifert Profi Test O² you can determine the oxygen content in freshwater oder seawater exactly and easily. Oxygen is highly essential for all life forms. Especially corals and marine fish require oxygen concentrations at saturation level. This is because of the low solubility of oxygen in saline water which is approx. 5 - 7 ppm. The oxygen test measures oxygen concentration in just a few minutes. The Salifert Profi Test PO4 -Phospahte- can perform approx. 50 measurements in freshwater, marine water or water from garden ponds.

With the Salifert Profi Test NH4 you can determine the ammonia content in freshwater oder seawater exactly and easily. Ammonia and ammonium are substances which should be converted rapidly into nitrite followed by nitrate and nitrogen gas. If this does not happen then the aquarium is not fully cycled or biological processes are not proceeding as they should. The Salifert Ammonia test is very straightforward and measures the sum of toxic ammonia and ammonium in just a few minutes. The Salifert Profi Test NH4 -Ammonia- can perform approx. 50 measurements in freshwater or marinewater and can detect 0.5 ppm of total ammonia easily.

With the Salifert Profi Test Mg you can determine the magnesium content in seawater exactly and easily. Calcium and strontium will not interfere the test, when their total concentration is between 300 and 500 mg/l. This is mostly the case. Natural sea water has a magnesium concentration of approx. 1300 - 1500 mg/l. The concentration varies with salinity. Too low magnesium concentration makes maintaining corect calcium and alkalinity concentration difficult. The Salifert Profi Test Mg -Magnesium- can perform approx. 50 measurements in marinewater. It measures in sufficient accurate steps of 30 mg/L with a sharp color change.

With the Salifert Profi Test I² you can determine the iodine content in seawater exactly and easily. Iodine is present in natural seawater in a very low concentration. Iodine occurs as different species. Some of them are iodide, iodate and hypoiodite. Generally when we say iodine then we mean one or more iodine species without a clear distinction being made. Natural seawater contains predominantly iodate and to a slight extent iodide. There is however a misconception among many hobbyists that iodide predominates in natural seawater. This is however false. Test kits which are not capable in detecting iodate might not really be suitable for aquarium use. Since in an aquarium iodide can be transferred to iodate. This means that if a test kit is used not capable in detecting iodate, a false low total iodine concentration (sum of iodate and iodide) will be obtained and the iodate concentration can climb far too high and possibly upsetting the aquarium environment. The Salifert Profi Test Iodine measures all naturally occurring iodine species such as iodate, iodide, molecular iodine and hypoiodite. No other test kit offers this possibility. Sufficient for approx. 40 tests in seawater aquaria.

With the Salifert Profi Test Ca you can determine the calcium content in seawater exactly and easily. Calcium is a major constituent of calcareous algae, skeletal material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft/leather corals. Calcium also fulfills many biological functions. Quite often a too low calcium concentration retards coral and calcareous algae growth. Natural seawater contains 400 - 450 mg/L calcium. Which is also the value we should strive for in the aquarium. For a stable aquarium environment the fluctuation in calcium content should preferably not more than approx. 15 mg/L. This automatically means that the calcium test should be able to monitor comparable fluctuations. The Salifert calcium test is capable in resolving the calcium content in 10 mg/L steps. The color change is sharp and facilitates the detection of small but highly significant fluctuations in the calcium concentration. Salifert is the only one in offering a true accuracy and precision as claimed. The kit can perform approx. 50 - 100 measurements in marinewater.

With the Salifert Profi Test Sr you can determine the strontium content in seawater in a easy way. Strontium plays an important role by accelerating coral and calcareous algae growth. Natural seawater contains approx. 7 - 9 mg/L strontium. Since the growth of corals and calcareous algae goes hand in hand with strontium and calcium depletion, depletion of calcium usually means depletion of strontium as well. It is advisable to maintain a strontium concentration between 5 and 20 mg/L. The Salifert strontium test kit detects both ionically free and moderately complexed strontium. Salifert was the first to introduce a strontium test kit. The Salifert Profi Test Sr -Strontium- is for approx. 25 tests in seawater. Measures in approx. 5 ppm increments.

With the Salifert Profi Test Si you can determine the silicate content in freshwater oder seawater exactly and easily. Silicate occurs especially in tap water or in purified water when the RO or DI unit is not functioning properly. Silicate not only results in diatom bloom but might also block some essential trace elements such as vanadium and molybdenum. For freshwater, please do not use tapwater or osmosis water with more than 2 mg/l silicate content. In seawater the silicate content should not be determined with these test kit. The Salifert Profi Test Si -Silicate- is for approx. 60 tests in seawater or freshwater. The range is 0.03 - 30 ppm as SiO2.
