| Dennerle Turbo Filter Pearls are a fully bio-active, high-performance filtering medium based on a special water-neutral, sintered SiO2 ceramic material. As a result of an innovative multi-layer technology, each FilterPearl incorporates a vast micro-labyrinth. The high porosity of over 60% and a total surface area of over 350 m2/l offer ideal conditions for an effective bacterial fauna. The varying size of the FilterPearls results in extra high bulk density, ensuring optimum use of the available filter volume. The bacteria which live on the vast outer surface and in the outer Pearl layers break down contaminants such as dangerous ammonia and nitrite with the aid of oxygen (aerobic degradation). The special surface structure provides for an extremely high degree of turbulence in the water flowing through the filter, thus ensuring an optimum supply of oxygen. In the inner Pearl layers, contaminant degradation takes place at low oxygen levels (anaerobic conditions), the nitrate which is conducive to algae growth is degraded here, for example. Numerous other filtering bacteria consume proteins, fats, carbohydrates, residual plant matter and food, organic suspended matter, etc., thereby clarifying the water. In this way, Dennerle Turbo Filter Pearls provide the ideal basis for premium water quality. Extensive tests have confirmed that Dennerle Turbo Filter Pearls are also ideal for sea water aquaria. With normal stocks of fish and plants, 1 litre is sufficient for the highly bio-active cleaning of up to 200 litres of aquarium water.
