O Fluval FX4 é um filtro externo potente e muito confortável, com um volume de filtragem muito grande. Os dados de desempenho deste filtro são impressionantes: 14 litros de volume de filtragem, 3,9 litros de volume de filtragem biológica, débito da bomba: 2650 l/h com apenas 30 W de consumo de energia para aquários com capacidade até 1000 litros. No entanto, o filtro é muito compacto e cabe em quase todos os armários de aquário. O Fluval FX4 possui um engenhoso sistema de autoescorvamento. Basta ligar a água e a energia e o filtro começa a bombear. Não há necessidade de escorvamento ou sucção. A série Fluval FX possui uma válvula de drenagem multifuncional na sua base, tornando possível esvaziar o recipiente e realizar mudanças de água sem interrupções, drenando e reabastecendo água diretamente a partir dele (e tudo sem perturbar a sua configuração ou os habitantes do aquário).
