Overview
Sera Phosphate Test (PO4) for approx. 60 measurements in fresh and marine water. Phosphate strongly promotes algae growth. Thus, it should be regularly checked by means of the sera phosphate-test. The phosphate level should be below 1 mg/l (fresh water) resp. 0.1 mg/l (salt water). Phosphate gets into the aquarium and garden pond due to the breakdown of organic material such as food leftovers, fish waste, or plant material. If more phosphate is produced than can be consumed by the plants, it accumulates in the water - one of the most common causes of increased algae growth. Excessive phosphate levels can negatively affect the overall balance in the aquarium.
