Compare aquarium type, water volume, filter condition, product form and storage requirements. A filter starter supports establishment but does not replace measured start-up monitoring.
Use filter starters to support biological establishment
Filter starters contain bacterial cultures or supporting preparations intended for new aquariums, restarted filters or selected disturbances of biological filtration. The category includes liquid cultures, capsules and filter-specific starter products from several manufacturers.
Select the product according to freshwater or marine suitability, aquarium volume, filter situation and stated application. A starter can support colonisation but does not make an aquarium immediately stable under every condition. Follow the instructions for temperature, storage, dosage and any required activation.
Continue to monitor ammonia or ammonium and nitrite during the start-up period and add livestock cautiously. Maintain oxygen supply and avoid disinfectants or unsuitable filter cleaning that could damage the developing bacterial population.
