Filter media bags hold loose media together inside an aquarium filter, filter chamber or sump. They make materials such as activated carbon, phosphate adsorbers, zeolite and other granules easier to insert and remove. The bag must fit the available space without blocking the intended water path.

Choose the mesh size according to the grain size of the filter medium. Fine granules require a finer mesh, while a very dense bag can restrict flow when it becomes dirty. Do not overfill the bag; the contents should remain distributed and water must be able to pass through the media.

Rinse new media as directed by the manufacturer before use. Reusable bags should be cleaned thoroughly between applications, while worn closures or damaged mesh should be replaced. Product details show dimensions, mesh type and fastening method.
